Scarification

Scarification is an important part of good lawn maintenance where thatch is an issue; it improves the quality of the lawn and benefits other treatments carried out throughout the year.

Scarification reduces the amount of thatch and moss which can form a dense barrier that limits the movement of water, nutrients and air to the grass roots. Removal of the thatch can be done manually or by a powered scarifier. By reducing the thatch layer, the plants have access to these essential elements and are able to develop a stronger rooting system.

Verticutting is the best way to remove thatch from the lawn. Vertical blades cut into and break up the layer of thatch with less damage to healthy grass. In addition, verticutting helps prepare the soil for overseeding, and improves the health and strength of existing grass.

Overseeding and fertilising after scarification are an important part of the process to encourage the grass to fill the newly made space.

At Lawnosity, we offer a full range of scarifying treatments in order to address the specific needs of each lawn and reduce thatch to a level where it becomes beneficial to the grass.
